Websites for Math Students

Brightstorm is a site that students in Algebra through Calculus classes can utilize to watch videos that reinforce the lessons taught in class.  The videos showcase teachers demonstrating Math concepts that the students are required to master.  Brightstorm also offers assistance in secondary Science, English and test preparation. 

Another website where students can access videos that show them math concepts is Khan Academy.  Students should scroll to bottom of page where subjects are listed alphabetically.


Ask Dr. Math allow students to search forums to figure out to approach a math problem that has stumped them.  If they cannot find a problem similar to theirs on the site, the can ask Dr. Math himself.

MathNerds is a website that was created by volunteers that specialize in Math from all over the world who provide hints and suggestions to students who need extra guidance.

Middle School Portal was created for middle school students to utilize; it has blogs students can visit and provides resources for each concept they will face in middle school Mathematics.  



Websites for Teachers

The following are some wonderful websites that will assist teachers in finding lesson plans that will promote student interest or give them ideas on how to tweak their current lesson plans to enhance learning.



PBS Teacherline is a website that offers classes for teaching development.  Teachers are awarded with a certificate upon completion of the class and run around $300 per class.  

Teachers can access an archive of problems of the week for their high schoolers here.
Figure This is a site that was created by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics for both families and teachers to use; it provides challenging math activities for everyone to enjoy.  



Test Taking Strategies for Students

For the students who have trouble parting with their cell phones or social networking sites, Study Boost will be beneficial for their grades, because t allows the student to study using these two things.

 Test Taking Tips offers those intimidated by tests some strategies to perform well on the assessments, reducing anxiety.


Online Tutoring Services

 Tutor.com  is one of the many online fee-based tutors.  Students can get help from a tutor 24/7 that specialize in Math, as well as other subject areas.

Tutor Vista is a free website that grants students access to tutors.  When you visit the webpage a real person greets you with a pop up window and can direct students where to go.

The Furman University has created an archive of Math quotes and if you want to look up the history of your favorite mathematician, skip Wikipedia and head straight to http://www-groups.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/.

Math in The Movies is a site where you can appreciate Math being showcased on the big screen.  

 Math Blog will entertain students and teachers alike with answers to questions like, “Can Math cure cancer?” and what books are must reads when it come to Mathematics.  It is a blog that is all about Math.
